Aariak names Schell to Human Resources

South Baffin MLA Fred Schell, who MLAs chose Sept. 28 to fill a vacant cabinet seat, will serve as minister in charge of the Human Resources department, Premier Eva Aariak announced Oct. 5

“I am pleased to present him with responsibility for the Department of Human Resources. This department faces many unique challenges and opportunities…,” Aariak said in a news release.

Arviat MLA Dan Shewchuk, who held Human Resources off and on since 2008, will keep his responsibilities for the Nunavut Arctic College and the Department of Environment.

Schell was elected to cabinet last month to fill the spot vacated by Iqaluit Centre MLA Hunter Tootoo, who was chosen to serve as speaker this past May 31.
