Police in Nunavik say they’ve made the second largest drug seizure this year in the community of Kangiqsujuaq.
That seizure, announced May 27 in a release from Kativik Regional Police Force, took place May 26.
That’s when the KRPF said it obtained a search warrant that resulted in the seizure of 800 vials of hash oil in Kangiqsujuaq and the arrest of a person who was released on a promise to appear in court.
The value of the seizure came to $48,000, the KRPF said.
The revelation about this latest seizure comes as regional councillors from the Kativik Regional Government, which oversees the police force, prepare to meet this week in Quaqtaq.
Due to an error in the KRPF-KRG May 27 news release, the date of the recent seizure was originally reported here as March 26.
This past March, KRPF officers seized more than 1,000 vials of hashish oil, worth more than $100,000 and arrested two people, a man and a woman, who were to have had their first court appearance in Salluit earlier this month.
Nunavimmiut can provide tips on illegal activities to the KRPF via the toll free number 1-800-711-1800 — and may offer up to $2,000 for information, the release said.
