Police in Nunavut have charged a teacher in Qikiqtarjuaq with two counts of sexual interference and one count of sexual assault.
The teacher is the third in Nunavut to have been charged with sex offences since the end of last month.
The Nunavut RCMP issued a news release April 16 that said that its members had conducted a criminal investigation involving a teacher in Qikiqtarjuaq after receiving a complaint from a student.
The release said that on April 15 the teacher was charged with two counts of sexual interference and one count of sexual assault.
The release said charges have now been laid, and that the teacher had been released by a justice of the peace with conditions, including no contact with persons under the age of 16.
Police said “names of all involved in the investigation are not being disclosed to protect the identities of those victimized.”
Police did not say when the teacher would appear in the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit.
The arrest of the teacher in Qikiqtarjuaq follows the arrest of another teacher in Iqaluit on March 29 who appeared in court in Iqaluit April 12, and the arrest of teacher in Kimmirut, revealed earlier this month, who will appear in court in Iqaluit on May 6.
