Photo: Arctic sunrise: daylight disappearing in Nunavut

It’s December — that means days are getting shorter. The sun tries to poke through a dark cloud as it rises in the east over an icy bay in Iqaluit. The sun is going to be up for 4 hours, 53 minutes and 30 seconds on Dec. 5 according to the sunrise and sunset calendar on timeanddate.com. On the winter solstice, Dec. 21, the sun will rise in Iqaluit at 9:22 a.m. and set at 1:42 p.m. — a whole 4 hours and 20 minutes of sun.
