Police in Sanikiluaq charged a local teen with careless use of a firearm late last week after the 15-year-old, armed with a shotgun, threatened to enter the school.
The RCMP in the Hudson Bay community said the detachment received a call Oct. 2 about an armed young man outside Nuiyak school, RCMP spokesman David Lawson told Nunatsiaq News Oct. 6.
The school, which has a population of about 125 primary students and a daycare centre, was quickly put on lockdown, Lawson said.
Police said no shots were fired and no one was injured. The youth turned himself in after police began to pursue him.
The teenager faces two charges: possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and careless use of a firearm.
The names of accused persons under the age of 18 may not be published or broadcast.
