After reaching out to the public with a notice that was circulated on social media and broadcast all weekend, the Ottawa Police Service has located a teenage girl from Nunavut who had been reported missing since July 8.

“There is nothing suspicious that was found. She was located safe and sound,” a communications spokesperson for the Ottawa police said July 13.

Oleesia Akesuk, 15, was last seen in the area around chemin Laurier and Des Allumettieres Blvd. in Gatineau.

When she went missing, police said her family was concerned about her wellbeing.

They also issued a notice containing the girl’s description that requested the public’s help.

The notice was broadcast all weekend on Ottawa news radio stations.

The teenage girl is originally from Cape Dorset and appears to have been living in Iqaluit before relocating to Ottawa earlier this year.
