CAMBRIDGE BAY — Police in Cambridge Bay netted marijuana and a substance that resembled crack cocaine on Feb. 13, just as the annual Kitikmeot Trade Show got underway in the community.

A 31-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man, both residents of Cambridge Bay, were found to be in possession of 98 grams of marijuana, the RCMP said in a Feb. 14 news release.

The man was also found to be in possession of one gram of “what appeared to be crack cocaine,” the news release said.

Police arrested Donna Evaglok, 31, and Johnny Kaosoni, 42, who now face charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Kaosoni also faces a charge of possession of cocaine.

The estimated street value of the drugs seized was about $4,300.

The drugs “could have done a lot of damage to the people of the community both physically and financially,” police said.

Evaglok and Kaosoni were released from custody on a promise to appear in court in Cambridge Bay on May 7.
