Canada Post extending hours in Nunavut’s capital

It might seem a little early to get started on Christmas shopping. but Canada Post says that starting Oct. 28, it’s extending the hours at its Iqaluit office right through until Christmas.

That means instead of closing at 6:00 p.m. on weekdays, the outlet will stay open until 7:00 p.m. The post office will also open on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. starting Nov. 1 until Dec. 20.

“It’s a very busy time of year,” said Canada Post spokesman Eugene Knapik. “We have lots of volume and we want to make sure people can get their packages.”

Canada Post’s Iqaluit location just recovered from technical issues that shut down three of the branch’s four computer terminals Oct. 21, slowing down its automated system last week.

The branch’s computers were repaired and functioning by Oct. 24, although Knapik said staff may need a few days to catch up.
