Canadian North signs deal with WestJet

Canadian North signed an agreement with WestJet, effective May 24, that will let passengers book travel with both airlines on one ticket.

Passengers will be able to check in for Canadian North and WestJet flights at the same time and through-check their luggage to their final destination, a May 31 news release said.

“We are excited to bring this added convenience to our customers and proud to be the first airline in Canada to secure an interline agreement with WestJet,” said Lorraine Bonner, Canadian North’s vice-president of scheduled service. “Our customers will now benefit from a more seamless trip with the ability to book their connecting flights on one ticket, as well as the convenience of one-stop check-in and through-checked luggage.”

Canadian North operates flights to and from Northwest Territories and Nunavut through Edmonton and Ottawa, allowing for connections across southern Canada with WestJet.

“We’re pleased to launch our first Canadian airline partnership,” said John MacLeod, WestJet’s vice-president of network management and alliances. “We look forward to connecting up guests between WestJet’s network to the south and Canadian North’s strong northern network.”

Bookings for Canadian North and WestJet flights can now be made on Canadian North’s website or call center, or through a travel agent.

Canadian North is owned by Norterra Inc., which is owned equally by Nunasi Corp. and the Inuvialuit Development Corp.
