The race is on for three seats in Nunavut’s legislature.

Voters in three Nunavut ridings go to the polls to select new MLAs Sept. 12.

The Iqaluit West riding was once held by former premier Paul Okalik, who resigned to run in last May’s federal election.

The Tununiq seat was vacated this spring by former MLA James Arvaluk, who resigned for health reasons.

And Pangnirtung needs a new MLA after Adamee Komoartok, elected in the 2008 election, stepped down in March after being charged with assault in connection with an incident at an Iqaluit hotel.

Running in Iqaluit West are Kirt Ejesiak, Monica Ell and Tuutalik Boychuck.

In Pangnirtung, Johnny Mike will take on Hezekiah Oshutapik.

And in Tununiq, four candidates are in the running: Joe Enook, Sam Sr. Omik, Brandy Kanayuk and David Qamaniq.

Nominations closed Aug. 12 at 2 p.m., but candidates have until 5 p.m. to back out.
