Candidates debate on May 28
All four candidates seeking the Nunavut seat in the House of Commons will meet next Wednesday for a live debate on CBC Radio.
The debate may be the best opportunity for Nunavut residents to evaluate the candidates and their parties in action as they respond to a variety of questions on issues facing the new territory.
Reform Party candidate John Turner, Progressive Conservative hopeful Okalik Eegeesiak, the Liberal Party’s Nancy Karetak Lindell and Hunter Tootoo of the NDP have all agreed to the format of the debate, which will be broadcast from Iqaluit.
People across Nunavut are invited to leave their own questions for the candidates in advance on the CBC answering machine, at 1-819- 979-6145.
The debate, to be moderated by CBC senior reporter Monica Ell, begins at 7 p.m. in Inuktitut and will be repeated at 9 p.m. in English.
