Nunavut RCMP said police in Cape Dorset have arrested and charged a man with the kidnapping and assault of a local woman.
Cape Dorset RCMP responded to a call just after 9 p.m. Oct. 24, with reports of a woman being assaulted and dragged into a nearby residence.
Police said in an Oct. 29 news release that they believe the assault continued at the residence.
Police arrested a 31-year-old man, who has been charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault and two count of failing to comply with a probation order, the release said.
Police did not name the man, who has been remanded to the Baffin Correctional Centre in Iqaluit.
He is scheduled to appear at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit Nov. 4.
