The Government of Nunavut wants you to get active for suicide prevention.

The GN is once again inviting Nunavummiut to take part in Cycle Around the Globe, held in advance of World Suicide Prevention Day, Sept. 10.

That’s when community teams are encouraged to cycle, run or walk a total of 4,200 kilometres; the distance between Sanikiluaq to Grise Fiord and back, Nunavut’s most northerly and southerly communities.

That would cover Nunavut’s portion of the event, which aims to span the circumference of the globe (40,075 kms) with participants cycling or walking on every continent.

The event is meant to highlight how important it is to reach out to people in need.

From now until Sept. 10, community teams are helping to organize cycling and walking venues through Nunavut. At the end of each day, community leaders will collect the total number of kilometres that people have cycled, walked or run.

The top community in each region will then be recognized on the GN’s website and Facebook page.
