Destruction of candidate’s sign an offence under Elections Act

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

In a recent letter to the editor, a reader from Iqaluit said they witnessed two people vandalizing a candidate’s campaign sign.

It is an offence under the Nunavut Elections Act (s. 250(2)) to damage a campaign sign.

I encourage the reader to report what they saw to the RCMP. The RCMP are responsible for investigating election complaints like this.

We all hope for peaceful and respectful elections in Nunavut.

But if someone sees unlawful activity, the best way to deal with it is to report it. That way it can be investigated and the offender brought to justice.
