Former executive director thanks Nunavik health board

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board of the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services and its former Chairperson Alasie Arngak for having worked with you for so many years.

For the 12 years I worked there, I have met many great people, worked with many great people and have been taught many things.

I started out in my work at the age of 24 as the assistant to the executive director. At that time Minnie Grey, who was the executive director, believed in me and hired me as a young woman and taught me many things, for that I am thankful. Minnie was a great mentor.

I then became the executive director at 28. Through the years of working for the health board, I met many inspirational people. Without you I would not have been able to do the work I did.

A large part of the work I had done was ensuring our culture and our identity continue to be the foundation of all. Without knowing who we are, we do not know where we are going. The continuation of promotion of our identity is the fundamental key to succeeding as an Inuit society.

Lastly, my hopes are for the board to refocus on the real needs of the region and move on. People are suffering and services need to be implemented. Getting people healthy and supporting people get healthy must continue to be the focus of the work.

And not to forget, I thank you very much to my family and friends that stood by me during the difficult times I passed, namely this last year. Without your support I would not have able to stay on my two feet. Nakurmiik.
