Queen’s rep to visit five communities
Governor General David Johnston will make his first official visit to Nunavut starting Aug. 15.

“As a vital part of our collective history, there is much we can learn from the Inuit culture,” Johnston said in a statement.
“My wife, Sharon, and I look forward to meeting with Nunavummiut families and community leaders, to hearing their stories about what Canada means to them, and to learning of the challenges they face in preserving their heritage. We are eager to exchange ideas on their sense of community and the innovative ways to build a smarter, more caring Canadian North.”
In Iqaluit, Johnston will meet with municipal and territorial government officials, educators and volunteers.
In Repulse Bay he’ll meet with elders and youth.
The trip wraps up in Resolute Bay, where Johnston will meet take part in Operation Nanook and meet with scientists working on the Polar Continental Shelf Project, as well as local residents.
