Nunavut, NWT, airlines team up on scholarship offer to future pilots
“The skills these young northerners acquire will benefit all Nunavummiut and support our aviation industry”
If you’re a Nunavut resident and interested in becoming a pilot, you can now access four new scholarships under the Aviation Career Development Program.
The governments of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, along with Discovery Air, Adlair Aviation, Keewatin and Air North-Wright Airfare, are offering $5,000 scholarships to northern students this year.
“The skills these young northerners acquire will benefit all Nunavummiut and support our aviation industry,” said Peter Taptuna, Nunavut’s minister of Economic Development and Transportation, in an April 20 news release. “We look forward to having more of our pilots, aircraft mechanics, airport managers, and airline staff coming from this territory.”
This past year was the first time residents of Nunavut could access the scholarships.
The 2011-2012 scholarship recipients included Raven Beardy and Clayton Tartak, both of Rankin Inlet, and Brent Crooks Junior of Iqaluit.
