Government of Nunavut plans to celebrate the seal on June 22

The fifth annual “Celebration of the Seal” takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Shake out your sealskin parka — the Government of Nunavut plans to hold its fifth annual “Celebration of the Seal” on June 22 at Sylvia Grinnell territorial park, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m..

“Come out and taste seal, caribou and Arctic char,” said a June 19 news release from the GN. “Then enjoy tea and bannock.”

Activities will include drum dancing, Inuit games, throat singing and other games.

And everyone is encouraged to wear sealskin clothing: prizes will also be given for the most beautiful outfits, the news release said.

Free bus services will be provided to anyone who wishes to attend.

The bus to Sylvia Grinnell park will stop at the following locations between 5 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.:

• Apex Quick Stop
• Arctic Ventures
• North Mart
• Parnaivik
• Frobisher Inn
