Grateful for Walk, Wag ‘n’ Roll participation

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

I want to send everyone who participated in our first public fundraising event, Walk, Wag ‘n’ Roll on May 26, a huge thank you.

This event was conceived by Noah Papatsie, a longtime Iqaluit resident who wanted to “give back” for his good fortune: his guide dog Xeno.

Sandwiched by City of Iqaluit bylaw officers and the Public Service Alliance of Canada’s Geoff Ryan, Papatsie led the contingent of 60-plus in one of the largest dog walks ever through Iqaluit.

The Iqaluit Humane Society showed wonderful community leadership and spirit, donating a ton of time and energy to make this event possible.

Thank you also to Tim Hortons, who provided much-appreciated hot tea and coffee to warm up the participants at the finish!

We raised $1,717 — of which half will be donated to the Guide Dogs of Canada and half will support Nunavummiut living with disabilities through the work of NDMS.

We hope to see you and your dogs again next year!

Yours in community,

Wendy Ireland
NDMS Executive Director
