Greenlandic speakers in Greenland and Denmark have something to look forward to next month: the launch of the first Greenlandic-language smartphone.
Through a partnership with Tele Greenland A/S, Telecom Call will deliver the stylish Huawei Sonic Smartphone, “the first smartphone in the world in Greenlandic,” on Nov. 8.
With this telephone, which operates on the Android platform, users will be able to log on to wireless hotspots, take photos with a 3.2 megapixel camera, listen to music on its MP3 player and record videos.
Users will be able to text message with more ease due to a touchscreen keyboard with larger rectangular keys, Telecom Call said in a recent news release.
Users may choose from among an estimated 300,000 apps that use the Android operating system.
This telephone even contains new technology that could ultimately replace credit cards and other means of payment.
That’s because when stores around Denmark and Greenland have installed scanners, users will be able transfer money from their accounts instead of waiting at the checkout.
