Hall Beach man faces charges in stabbing incident
RCMP assign extra member to cope with surge in alcohol-related work
A Hall Beach man is in Qikiqtani General Hospital recovering from stab wounds after an incident that occurred in the early hours of July 2.
Police responded to a call made at 2:12 a.m. July 2 from the Hall Beach health centre, reporting a 28-year-old man with multiple stab wounds.
The man was rushed to Qikiqtani General Hospital. His condition remains stable with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Naisana Eecheak, 27, of Hall Beach is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
Eecheak is remanded in custody until July 6, when he will appear at a show cause hearing in Iqaluit.
Alcohol was likely a factor in the incident, police said
“Hall Beach detachment has a significant increase in alcohol-related calls for service over a six-hour period between July 1 and July 2,” an RCMP news release said.
Because of a spike in alcohol-related police work, the RCMP have sent another member to Hall Beach, police said.
