Iqaluit police are investigating the death of a 30-year-old woman found outside a local residence early Jan. 20.
RCMP were called about 8:00 a.m. that morning, after the woman was discovered lying under a parked vehicle in front of a home. She was declared dead at the scene.
Police haven’t said how the woman got under the vehicle or if they suspect foul play. Nunavut’s chief coroner’s office has yet to determine a cause of death.
“[T]here are no known safety concerns for the public at this time,” the RCMP said in a Jan. 21 release, but they also say their Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services are still investigating.
“The family of the deceased has been advised and our thoughts are with them during this unfortunate time,” the RCMP release said.
Temperatures early Jan. 20 dropped to about -25 C in Iqaluit.
Police have warned the public to be cautious outdoors this time of year, when weather conditions can be hazardous.
