The City of Iqaluit honoured some of its volunteers with “Outstanding Volunteer” awards at an Oct. 6 event at Iqaluit’s Discovery Lodge that included live music, as well as presentations of certificates and awards.

The recipients of the volunteer awards include:

• Arts & Culture Award – Janet Brewster

• Sport & Recreation Award – Emily Ridlington

• Youth Award – the Makkuttuk Justice Committee

• Community Development Award – Jen Hayward

• Service Club Member Award – Doug Cox

• Service Organization Award – Nunavut Food Bank

“Volunteers are an integral part of a healthy and productive community,” said Amy Elgersma, director of recreation, in an Oct. 11 news release.

“The recipients of this year’s Outstanding Volunteer Awards are dedicated volunteers who give so generously of their time to make Iqaluit a better place to live.”
