Iqaluit resident named to Nutrition North advisory board
“The addition of another board member from Nunavut will be an asset to the board”
Elisabeth Cayen, executive director of the Nunavut Fisheries Training Consortium, has been appointed to the Nutrition North Canada advisory board, John Duncan, minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, announced Nov. 28.
“The Harper Government is pleased that Mrs. Cayen has agreed to serve as a member of the Nutrition North Canada Advisory Board,” Duncan said in a news release.
Cayen has held a number of positions with aboriginal groups in the North, including executive director of the Aboriginal Futures Society, consultant with the Tetlit Gwich’in Council, and education and training consultant with the Gwich’in Tribal Council, the news release said.
“Nunavummiut are strong users of the NNC program, said Wilf Wilcox of Cambridge Bay, the NNC advisory board’s chairperson. “The addition of another board member from Nunavut will be an asset to the board as we continue to provide advice to the minister based on feedback we receive from community members across the North.”
Members of the board recently visited Nain, Labrador, where they met with residents.
