For the second year in a row, Northwestel and students in Iqaluit partnered to recycle outdated telephone directories to keep them out of the landfill.
Students attending École des Trois-Soleils collected 529 directories this year, which works out to 6.37 directories per student, earning them $1,050 from Northwestel. The school will use the cash reward to fund environmental activities.
“I enjoyed meeting the students at École des Trois-Soleils and was inspired by their enthusiasm to protect the environment”, said Paul Flaherty, the president and chief executive officer at Northwestel, in a June 21 news release.
The Directory Recycling Program is offered in Iqaluit, Yukon and Northwest Territories.
