Katudgevik Co-op clarifies relationship with ACL

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

I am writing in response to the article you initially ran on Dec. 12, 2011. The headline read “Sudliq Developments wins appeal on GN-awarded contract.”

I am compelled to respond in an effort to set the record straight.

First, to state as you have in your article that Katudgevik Co-op “is part of Arctic Co-operatives Ltd.” is misleading.

Katudgevik Co-op was incorporated in 1970 and, incidentally, held the fuel distribution contract originally from 1980 to 1985.

Katudgevik Co-op is a member-owned, member-serving and member-driven business which benefits the community of Coral Harbour. In a community with a population of less than 800, the co-op has a very strong community membership of close to 550.

Arctic Co-operatives Ltd. is a service federation which provides support services to the co-operatives of Nunavut, including Katudgevik.

ACL is owned and controlled by the co-ops of Nunavut and is, in fact, an Inuit firm within the meaning of the NNI policy and has been properly registered as such by the appropriate agencies in Nunavut.
