Kenn Harper won’t sit on NIC

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Kenn Harper will not be reappointed to the Nunavut Implementation Commission.

Harper officially withdrew his name last week, five months after being accused of violating conflict-of-interest guidelines while he was a commissioner.

“I’ve withdrawn my name for personal reasons,” Harper told Nunatsiaq News Wednesday.

The GNWT nominated Harper for his first two-year term with the implementation commission in 1994. He wasn’t reappointed along with the other commissioners in December, pending an ethics review.

In March, Harper indicated he still hoped the GNWT would support his nomination. But a spokesperson for the GNWT said the goverment isn’t considering anyone to fill either of two vacant seats on the Commission. NIC commissioner, Guy Alikut, resigned earlier this year.
