KIA elects David Ningeongan to lead org

Ningeongan nets 46 per cent of the vote

David Ningeongan will lead the Kivalliq Inuit Association, eligible beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement decided Dec. 12.

Ningeongan received 771 votes, or 46 per cent of the 1,667 votes cast in the Dec. 12 vote.

Joe Kaludjak received 545 votes, or 32 per cent of the votes cast, and Kono Tattuinee received 351 votes, or 21 per cent of the votes.

Raymond Ningeocheak was elected vice-president. He received 851 votes, narrowly beating Stanley Adjuk, who received 814 votes.

The following candidates were elected as community directors:

• Donat Milortok for Repulse Bay;

• Jack Kabvitok for Rankin Inlet; and,

• Leopold Ekwalak for Whale Cove.
