Maggie Emudluk of Kanigqsualujjuaq will continue to lead the Kativik Regional Government for another three years, her third term as chairperson of the organization that oversees the delivery of government services in Nunavik.

Emudluk’s re-election followed an afternoon of deliberations Nov. 28 in Kuujjuaq by Nunavik’s regional councillors, who also chose four other members to sit on the KRG’s executive.

Mary Pirlutuut of Kangiqsujuaq, a longtime mayor of the Hudson Strait community and former KRG executive member, will now serve as the vice-chairperson of the KRG.

Other executive members include Aisara Kenuajuak, who is also the mayor of Puvirnituq and a former KRG executive member, Jennifer Watkins-Munick, the regional councillor for Kuujjuaq, and Eli Aullaluk of Akulivik, a former mayor, now the community’s regional councillor, who had previously sat on the KRG executive, where he also served as speaker of the KRG council.

Kenuajuak will serve as the council’s speaker, while regional councillor Peter Inukpuk of Inukjuak is the KRG’s deputy speaker.
