Lindell will run for Liberals
Nunatsiaq Tories to name candidate next week
DWANE WILKIN
Nunatsiaq Liberals have pinned their June 2 federal election hopes on Keewatin’s Nancy Lindell by a wide margin.
At a nomination meeting in Cambridge Bay on Wednesday, the Nunatsiaq Liberal riding association chose Lindell over Eva Adams-Klassen from Iqaluit.
Of 415 votes cast, Lindell picked up the support of 323 party members, leaving Adams-Klassen, who first declared as a candidate for the nomination three weeks ago, with 92 votes.
Lindell, who hails from Arviat, is secretary-treasurer of the Keewatin Inuit Association. She will now run for the seat in Parliament left vacant by Jack Anawak, Nunavut’s recently named interim commssioner.
Nunavut Tories, who have been trolling for their own nomination candidates, announced this week that Okalik Eegeesiak would put her name forward at the party’s nomination meeting next Tuesday, May 6.
Eeegeesiak is an executive-director in training with the Inuit birthright corporation in Iqaluit.
The Tory nomination meeting will be held in the boardroom of the Astro Hill Theatre, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
