A morning lock-down at Nakasuk Elementary School ended without incident May 5 after police seized a knife, the Nunavut RCMP said May 5 in a news release.

“As per school protocol, Nakasuk school was put on lock-down [which] has since been lifted. The situation was defused without incident,” the release said.

Iqaluit schools have held regular lock-down drills, police said.

“Nakasuk students and staff later participated in an assembly with the Iqaluit RCMP to discuss the incident and to reiterate the importance of the lock-down procedures,” the statement said.

That resulted in increased outreach efforts by Nunavut RCMP in Iqaluit schools.
