NAM president clarifies remarks

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

I am writing in regard to your Dec. 16 article about recent changes at the Nunavut Association of Municipalities, entitled “NAM back on track, says new interim president.”

I am writing to correct the impression created by the article that I was critical of the work of NAM’s past president, Mayor Sakiasie Sowdlooapik of Pangnirtung.

During his tenure as president of NAM, Mayor Sowdlooapik made an important contribution to Nunavut municipalities, something the NAM board of directors explicitly acknowledged when accepting his resignation.

The NAM board looks forward to working with Mayor Sowdlooapik, the Hamlet of Pangnirtung, and all Nunavut municipalities as we work together to benefit our communities.
