New Nunavut partners climb aboard NSSI sealift carrier
Qikiqtaaluk Corp. and Sakku Corp. now partners in Nunavut Sealink and Supply Inc.
Harry Flaherty, president of Qikiqtaaluk Corp., Patrick Tagoona, president and chief executive officer of Sakku Investments Corp., Bill Lyall, president of Nunavut Sealink and Supply Inc. and the Arctic Co-operatives Limited, confirmed Feb. 25 that QC and Sakku have joined NSSI as shareholders by acquiring ownership interest in the Iqaluit-based sealift carrier NSSI.
Through the deal, first announced last April, partners will share benefits proportionate to their respective shares, starting in the 2012 season, said a news release on the new partnership.
NSSI`s new board of directors is now formed by the four partners, with their voting positions proportional to the board members` respective shares.
This partnership supports “QC’s focus on concluding new, healthy and profitable partnerships within Nunavut, which will provide employment opportunities, as these partnerships, continue to grow,” Flaherty said in the news release.
Tagoona said the new partnership in NSSI will provide Sakku “with an even better opportunity to share in the wealth of our land”.
“The existing partners of NSSI welcome Qikiqtaaluk Corp. and Sakku Investments Corp. to the ownership group and are looking forward to working co-operatively to develop our common business and social interests,” Lyall said. “More than ever before, the ‘common sense’ nature that forms the foundation of the NSSI partnership is now evident.”
