Baffinland Iron Mines Corp. says a fire that broke out Jan. 7 at its Mary River iron mine project in north Baffin caused no injuries.

The fire started in an outbuilding on the work site and then spread to a nearby trailer, Baffinland said in a Jan. 7 release.

Emergency crews managed to put out the blaze.

Construction activities at the site have not been affected, the company release said.

It’s unclear how the fire began, the extent of damage or what was in the trailer, Baffinland said.

Officials have been notified about the fire and an investigation is under way, the release said.

The Mary River project in north Baffin will be the subject of public hearings this week in Clyde River, Grise Fiord, Resolute, Arctic Bay and Pond Inlet to allow members of the public to share their views and concerns about the mine projects’s proposed new transportation corridor to Milne Inlet.
