Northern airlines cut fares to win over Iqaluit-Ottawa travellers

Canadian North, First Air offer identical sale fares

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

In the wake of Air Canada’s decision to cut its service between Iqaluit and Ottawa on Aug. 1, northern airlines are slashing their ticket prices on that route to win back customers.

On July 15, Canadian North announced it has reduced fares on Iqaluit flights to and from Ottawa to $589.

That new rate will offer a 14 per cent reduction on its lowest year-round fare, and seven per cent cut on its next lowest fare.

“We’ve been working on our fare structure for some time now, and are pleased to offer this price reduction in the Iqaluit/Ottawa marketplace,” Lorraine Bonner, vice-president of scheduled service at Canadian North said in a company news release.

First Air has already matched Canadian North’s sale fares on the Iqaluit to Ottawa route, as well for routes in Nunavut’s western Kitikmeot region.

Nunatsiaq Online reported Air Canada’s decision to pull out of Iqaluit earlier this month.
