Nunasi offers scholarships to Nunavut Inuit students

“To encourage Inuit to continue with their education, pursue academic excellence”

Nunasi Corp., in partnership with Nuna Logistics, NCC Investment Group Ltd, Polar Vision and Larga Kitikmeot will award up to 10 $2,500 scholarships for the 2013-2014 academic year, Nunasi announced April 23.

The Nunasi Scholarships were “established to encourage Inuit to continue with their education and pursue academic excellence,” Nunasi said.

Eligible applicants must be beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and enrolled in a recognized, accredited educational institution for the 2013/2014 academic year. Mature adult education students may also apply, a news release about the scholarships said.

Applicants must:

• be enrolled as a beneficiary of the NCLA;

• submit an enrollment or acceptance letter from an appropriate accredited institution (accredited college, university, technical or adult education program);

• be enrolled as a full-time student in the upcoming semester; and,

• submit the most recent transcript with the application to support academic performance.

Applicants will be rated by demonstrated leadership, academic performance, volunteerism and community involvement, “career goals that contribute to the enhancement of Nunavut,” and financial need, Nunasi said.
