A hunter from the Hudson Bay community of Umiujaq died Nov. 11 after falling through the ice on nearby river.
The Kativik Regional Police Force said local officers were advised Nov. 11 that two people had gone missing while canoeing to the Richmond Gulf Nov. 10.
The temperature that day hovered around -5 C with snow showers and light winds.
When the two hunters hadn’t returned home Nov. 11, a local search and rescue crew went out looking for them.
The hunters were found just outside the community. One man was found in good health, the KRPF said Nov. 13, but the other man was already deceased.
Police say the hunter likely died from hypothermia.
