A joint police operation in Kuujjuaq, which saw quantities of drugs and money seized, has led to the arrest of nine people.

The Sûreté du Québec provincial police investigators from the Nunavik detachment, with members of the Kativik Regional Police Force in Kuujjuaq, executed seven search warrants in Kuujjuaq between July 23 and Aug. 11, resulting in the arrest of nine people, the SQ said Aug. 17 in a news release.

These individuals could face charges of drug trafficking and possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking,” the SQ release said.

Police seized more than $17,000 worth of marijuana and hashish and $12,500 in cash.

“The success of this operation was the result of the joint efforts of both police forces and was facilitated by the creation of the joint unit of the Nunavik investigation team,” the release said.

The SQ said anyone with information regarding criminal acts and-or suspicious events should call the SQ’s central criminal information unit at 1-800-659-4264.
