Nunavik telephone service back to normal: Bell Aliant

Bell Aliant says it’s “restored the majority of services in Nunavik.”

That news came in a statement issued late Nov. 6, which followed a Nunatsiaq News story about the poor telephone service in Nunavik, with a medical doctor at Puvirnituq’s Inuulitsivik health centre saying “it’s as if the telecommunications network in the region was beginning to collapse.”

Bell Aliant, the member of the Bell group of companies that services Nunavik, said that its team are working “tirelessly to find permanent solutions to intermittent services,” particularly in Puvirnituq.

Bell and Telesat, which provides satellite services to the region, are trying to figure out why there are still what Bell describes as “intermittent service failures” in Nunavik,

Most people in the region can now call each other and make long distance calls to the South — but not in Puvirnituq, where Bell says there is still “interference and calls that cannot be completed.”

Bell, which said it’s in “regular communication” with the various government departments affected by the poor service, said it wants to assure people that “the situation will return to normal soon” and thanked its customers for their “patience and collaboration.”
