If you are between the ages of 18 and 35 and live in Nunavik, the organizers of the region’s third Qanaq conference for youth want to know by June 21 if you plan to attend the gathering in Kangiqsujuaq July 1 to July 5.

Parenting, Inuit culture and wellness — these are among the many topics that youth from Nunavik discussed in previous gatherings where the session subjects reflected suggestions received from youth.

This year an announcement about the conference noted that limited childcare services will be provided only to those who ask for it advance.

And, accommodations this year will be differ from those at the 2010 and 2012 conferences. That’s because, unlike Inukjuak, where participants stayed in the Pigiursavik vocational school residence, there’s no similarly large residence facility in Kangiqsujuaq.

So participants at the July conference will largely be housed with local families.

The deadline for application is June 21.

Too many last minute applications in the past caused a lot of problems for the steering committee, the conference announcement said.

“This year we will have to really enforce the deadline, so we ask participants to apply as soon as possible,” said organizer Janice Grey. “This will also help us better communicate with participants.”

You can get your applications at local municipal offices or on Facebook, on the Qanaq conference page.
