Living “on the land” in Nunavik looks good, as the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services prize-winning photographs show.
Photos submitted for its 2011 contest were to depict life in Nunavik “on the land.”
Sammy Kudluk’s photo of a hunter crouching in his hunting blind picked up first prize — a Nikon D3100 camera.
A photo taken by Siassie Anowak of young boy seated in a canoe along the shore netted her an IPad 2.
The health board launched its photo contest last summer to build up its bank of photos for use in its publications such as pamphlets, posters and annual reports, and on its website.
A jury made up of health board staff and elected officials selected the six winning photos at its annual general assembly last week.
Other winning photographers included Véronique Dion Roy, Robert Ladouceur, Francis Duclos and Karine Simard, who all took home prizes for their entries, from an IPod Touch to a forest survival backpack.
