The RCMP arrested and charged a Pangnirtung man with armed robbery after someone last week robbed a Northern store employee who was trying to make a cash deposit.

James Qiyuaqyuk, 20, is to appear in court Oct. 20 in Iqaluit on charges of armed robbery, breach of probation and mischief, police said Oct. 5.

He’ll be held in custody at least until that date.

The robbery occurred outside the Northern store in Pangnirtung at about 10 p.m. Oct. 1. Police did not say what kind of weapon was used.

No one was injured and the matter is still under investigation, police said.
