Nunavut cops probe apparent homicide in Rankin Inlet

Body of 25-year-old woman found outside early Nov. 22

The Nunavut RCMP have opened an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old Rankin Inlet mother of three, Edith Angalik, whose nude, frozen body was found outdoors in the Area 5 section of the community early on the morning of Nov. 22.

Investigators from the RCMP “V” division major crimes unit and forensic identification services began work on the case Nov. 22, police said Nov. 23 in a news release.

In their statement, police called the matter “a suspicious death.” They have yet to announce the laying of any charges.

Police said they will not release the dead woman’s name, but multiple sources have confirmed her identity via email and Facebook, and her family appears to have been informed

“Edith is now in heaven … never to be hurt ever again. I love you Edith someday we will meet again,” one Facebook mourner said,

This is the second homicide in Rankin Inlet this year.

Last May, David Manilak, 30, of Rankin Inlet died after being found “in medical distress.”

Police have yet to make an arrest in Manilak’s death.
