Nunavut fisheries firm hires new executive director

Iqaluit businessman Adamee Itorcheak will serve as the next executive director of the Baffin Fisheries Coalition, the organization announced April 28.

“He brings with him many years of experience in the Nunavut business sector,” Jacopie Maniapik, the BFC’s chair, is quoted as saying in a BFC news release.

Itorcheak has been working recently as the BFC’s Inuit crewing and liason officer and will continue to do that work as executive director, the BFC said.

“Our focus has to be on ensuring that our Inuit fishermen and office workers have the training and ability to move into more managerial and technical positions in our company, and Adamee is now charged with this responsibility,” Maniapik said.

Until last fall, Itorcheak worked as a constituency assistant in the old Iqaluit East riding for Eva Aariak, the former MLA and premier.

He has also worked with the Nunavut Fisheries Training Consortium and owned a managed a number of companies.

Itorcheak will report to Maniapik and to Jerry Ward, the BFC’s chief executive officer.
