Nunavut honours nurses during National Nursing Week
Three nurses receive awards
During National Nursing week, May 6 to May 12, Nunavut is giving special recognition to three nurses.
“I am proud of our nursing staff and the medical care they provide to Nunavummiut, and I thank them for their care, compassion and commitment,” Keith Peterson, Nunavut’s health minister said in a May 6 news release.
The nurses receiving awards include:
• Joanne Dignard, nurse-in-charge in Grise Fiord, who receives an “Excellence in Nursing Practice” award;
• Candice Waddell, a registered psychiatric nurse in Cape Dorset, who receives an “Excellence in Nursing Leadership” award; and,
• Judith Clarke, community health nurse in Pond Inlet, who receives a “Lifetime Achievement” award.
National Nursing Week coincides with International Nursing Day on May 12, the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, considered the founder of modern nursing.
