At 1:30 p.m. Feb. 26, Nunavut MLAs will begin their winter sitting at the Nunavut legislature in Iqaluit.

And if you can’t be there, in Nunavut you can still watch the session live on local community cable channels starting at 1:30 p.m. eastern time.

The winter sitting, a continuation of the third session of the third legislative assembly, will likely run until March 19, with discussion of the territorial budget expected to dominate the agenda.

Finance Minister Keith Peterson will start his budget speech at around 1:35 p.m. Feb. 27, and at the same time, table the Nunavut government’s 2013-14 operation and maintenance budget for debate by MLAs.

MLAs passed the 2013-14 capital budget at a sitting this past fall. At the time, Peterson announced only $17.1 million in new capital spend, since most of the year’s $152.9 million capital budget involved carry-over spending on multi-year projects.

At the time, Peters also projected a small deficit of only $5.6 million for 2012-13, less than than the $50 million deficit he projected earlier in the year.
