No one injured in April 19 shooting incident

A 21-year-old Taloyoak man faces five charges after he fired a rifle inside a local home this past week. (PHOTO COURTESY OF QINIQ)

Police in the western Nunavut community of Taloyoak arrested a man April 19 for firing a rifle in a local residence.

Taloyoak RCMP members responded to a firearm call April 19 at 4:30 p.m., by which point a man had fired a rifle twice inside a home, RCMP said in an April 21 release.

With the help of local resident, police arrested the man. No one was injured by the shots, police said.

Darryl Klengenberg, 21, faces five charges: assault, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failure to comply with a probation order and unlawfully being in a dwelling house.

Klengenberg was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Taloyoak on May 25.
