Nunavut minister announces IQ council appointees

Eleven members have recently been appointed to Nunavut’s Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Katimajiit, James Arreak, the Government of Nunavut’s minister of Culture and Heritage, said March 1 in the territorial legislature.

The new members will serve as an advisors on the use of traditional Inuit knowledge or Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit to the GN and its agencies.

The members, who will serve for three years, include:

• Saul Qirngnirq of Gjoa Haven;

• Ovide Alakannuark of Kugaaruk;

• Annie Napayok of Whale Cove;

• Gamailee Kilukishak of Pond Inlet;

• Josephine Kublu of Igloolik;

• Daniel Qattalik of Igloolik;

• Okpik Pitseolak of Iqaluit;

• Martha Michael of Iqaluit;

• Martha Tikivik of Iqaluit;

• Adamie Veevee of Pangnirtung; and,

• Levi Evic of Pangnirtung

“I am looking forward to receiving recommendations, advice and support from the new Katimajiit,” Arreak said.

“Their work will contribute to the implementation of Inuit societal values and Qaujimajatuqangit within all aspects of the Government of Nunavut operations and its public agencies.”
