A 41-year-old man faces a slew of gun and drug related charges after surrendering peacefully to RCMP officers Aug. 6 after an early morning confrontation at a residence in Clyde River.

In a statement Aug. 9, the RCMP “V” Division identified the man arrested as Seemeega Sagiatuk. He’s been charged with using a firearm in the commission of an offense, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a controlled substance.

Sagiatuk also faces four counts of uttering threats and two counts of unsafe storage of firearms and ammunition.

RCMP officers responded to a Clyde River residence in the early hours of Aug. 6 after receiving reports that a man has threatened to shoot “multiple persons” inside a home.

When they arrived, police learned the gunman had returned to his own residence.

Police say the man surrendered peacefully after about an hour of negotiations.

“In this incident, the Clyde River RCMP demonstrated compassion and professionalism with Sagiatuk to help him recognize that his cooperation was for the betterment of the community,” the statement continued.

No shots were fired during the incident.

Sagiatuk will have a bail hearing “on or before” Aug. 10, the RCMP said.
