Nunavut police have arrested and charged an axe-wielding man who assaulted another person in Baker Lake last week.
Members of the RCMP responded to reports of a disturbance outside a local business in the Kivalliq community May 4, when a man was reported to be carrying an axe, RCMP said in a May 9 release.
Police would not offer details of the alleged assault, but said that a 56-year-old victim was flown to Winnipeg to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police did not say if the victim was male or female.
The 26-year-old suspect was located near the scene May 4 and taken into custody “without incident,” RCMP said.
The suspect faces two counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon and breach of probation.
